A “clew” is a collective noun to describe a bundle of earthworms. This phenomenon is a defense mechanism that allows worms to communicate through touch, move as a singular unit, and protect the mass with a larger surface area of mucus. This piece uses hand pulled glass tubes that interlock many singular entities into one writhing organism.
