Gethsemane is the name of an olive grove that resides outside of Jerusalem. In the Christian Bible, it is the last location in which Jesus Christ prays in solitude prior to the betrayal of Judas. This hanging installation places a spotlight onto a collapsed glass vessel strung up with an oil lamp wick, representing Jesus in this turmoil of accepting death. On the floor beneath, three deflated glass sculptures lay as representations of the three apostles that fell asleep while keeping watch of Jesus as he prayed. This event is recalled as the “Agony in the Garden” in the Book of Matthew.
