Blown glass, preserved insects, cork
2.5 x 2.5 x 3.75 in.

The preserved insects contained in this blown glass jar were collected over the course of 4 months from a hot glass studio in rural Wisconsin. Each bug was found already deceased in open bowls of glass powder. The silica in glass powder coats their ligaments and wings, preventing movement and leads to slow, painful death. The powder also preserves the insects, drying them and preventing rot. The mix contains arachnids, bees, moths, mosquitoes, and various types of flies.
