Pulled glass tubing, neon, argon, mercury, wire, wall paint
4 x 6 ft. wall installation

This wall installation takes various coded symbols used by utility companies to mark the infrastructure beneath our city roads. These symbols, most commonly drawn with spray paint, mark a hidden underground maze of utilities that supply our community. In this work, the constructed map depicts a city in chaos and dysfunction. Gas lines intersect with electrical conduits, and sewage pipes pump into potable water lines. This installation considers the systems that run behind closed curtains, their intrinsic design to harm community, and the line that divides graffiti from utility.

Video Description: A close up shot of a green sign reading “PRVT ST” (abbreviation “private street”) where the argon gas emitting light gently sways and pulses.
